The Office of the Secretary (OSD) is putting pressure on the Air Force to find a way to accelerate launch of the first GPS III (GPS) satellite for a first launch earlier than 2012, DoD and industry officials reported.
Though no announcement has been made, program officials predict the program schedule will be moved up. However, the Air Force is facing difficulty in devising a way to put money back into the FY '04 budget to shift the schedule at this point, officials said.
The FY '04 budget request, which has already been sent to Capitol Hill, delays the GPS III competition for a prime contractor until 2006 (Defense Daily, Jan. ...
