May 8--PIERRE, S.D.--South Dakota hopes to protect hatching baby fish in its four Missouri River reservoirs by intervening in North Dakota's lawsuit on the management of the river, state officials said Wednesday.
South Dakota is primarily seeking a federal court order that would maintain water levels in the reservoirs until the end of June, so fish eggs laid in shallow water can hatch and the baby walleyes and smelt can safely swim away, officials said.
Attorney General Larry Long said he believes South Dakota will be allowed to intervene. Nebraska also is seeking to ...
