HAY FEVER keeps more than 500,000 children off school at the height of the allergy season, reveals a survey.
The misery of red, itchy eyes and a runny nose sparked by tree and grass pollen makes it difficult for youngsters to concentrate in class.
Their discomfort is at its worst when they are under stress from preparing for exams or sitting them.
At least a third of students with allergy symptoms blamed them for a worsening in their academic performance.
And the discomfort has come earlier this year, according to experts.
