May 8--Federal officials investigating the collapse of the twin towers are examining whether the Port Authority used enough spray-on fireproofing to protect the skyscrapers, an interim report released yesterday revealed.
The fireproofing covered all the steel-floor components of the 110-story towers.
The PA, which owned the skyscrapers, has maintained that the buildings' innovative design met or exceeded city building codes. It stood by that position yesterday.
