Federal law prohibits U.S. "persons" from participating in economic boycotts or embargoes of other nations. During the 1970's, the United States adopted two laws to discourage U.S. persons from participating in foreign boycotts that the United States does not sanction. These "antiboycott" laws are the 1977 amendments to the Export Administration Act of 1969 and the Ribicoff Amendment to the Tax Reform Act of 1976.
