This joke reflects the old stereotype that bean counters get along better with numbers than with people. Communication skills are just one of the core leadership competencies healthcare financial managers need to succeed in today's marketplace.
Count me among those who insist we define and cultivate core competencies among today's healthcare executives and future leaders. Hiring organizations increasingly expect every job candidate to have certain core competencies. For that reason, I have become a "student" of core competencies.
