As much as ever, many consumers consider the meat dish the test of a meal's worth. It's no wonder, then, that demand for frozen raw meat and game has increased sharply in the last ten years.
According to the German Frozen Food Institute (dti), total consumption of this product group for the year 2001 reached 201,561 tons. That was an increase of more than 105% versus a decade ago.
The most popular products were processed raw meat items like gyros, breaded schnitzel, and hamburger steaks. In the year 2001, private and bulk consumers bought 182,997 tons of these products, a 90.8% share of the total. Frozen raw game came to 18,564 tons, or 9.2%.
