Parker is going batty, trying to fight West Nile virus with furry flying creatures that can eat 1,000 mosquitoes an hour.
It has second- and third-graders at Pine Lane Primary School building bat boxes in hopes of attracting the nocturnal creatures to munch on mosquitoes breeding in town detention ponds.
On a recent school day, Kenny Hamsley of Parker Public Works arrived with drill and bat-house parts in hand, ready to explain how the winged mammals could help combat the mosquito-borne virus.
But Hamsley knew he had to start with what the third-graders really wanted to know.
