San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - New York Mets catcher Mike Piazza is expected to miss the next six to eight weeks recovering from a severe groin injury. The All-Star backstop sustained the injury during Friday's game against the Giants while trying to evade an inside pitch from Jason Schmidt.
The New York Post reported on Sunday that Piazza would be out at least a month but will most likely miss more time. Piazza has already been placed on the 15- day disabled list.
