The U.S. seizure of Tallil air base in Iraq in the opening days of Operation Iraqi Freedom allowed the Air Force to deploy A-10 close air support/anti-tank aircraft closer to enemy targets and increased pilots' situational awareness, according to the base's commander.
"The A-10 was still the A-10," Col. James Dobbins, Tallil's commander, said during a teleconference with reporters yesterday. "What it really provided was more time over target.
