With attendance down 30% this year at Jacobs Field as the Cleveland Indians plunged close to the bottom of the American League Central Division, the players are not the only ones losing support.
Some establishments near the ballpark that are reliant on the Indians to drum up business have taken a hit because the team's poor play - not unexpected, given the number of young players in prominent roles - has dragged average attendance down to 19,371 through May 5 from 32,308 at this point in 2002.
