Grupo Berge, Spain's largest independent importer, has acquired most of the SsangYong distribution rights for Spain from rival Intermed.

Berge bought 75 percent of the rights from Intermed for an undisclosed amount. Intermed kept a 25 percent share. Intermed also handles Daihatsu in Spain.

"Spain is SsangYong's biggest European market, and we expect to increase sales from 600 units last year to 1,000 units this year and 1,800 units in 2004," said Rafael Sainz, managing director of SsangYong Spain.
