Neurocrine Biosciences of the USA has reported promising Phase III data on its novel hypnotic drug indiplon which suggest that the compound may not be associated with either rebound insomnia or withdrawal effects, two major problems with existing drugs for insomnia.

The company has already presented Phase III results in support of the drug's efficacy and safety in treating insomnia (Marketletters passim). The latest study, however, was specifically designed to look at rebound insomnia and withdrawal following discontinuation of indiplon 10mg or 20mg after 35 consecutive nights of treatment.
