The proposal is aimed at stepping up the campaign against counterfeiting thanks to better co-operation between the Member States, and joint training for counterfeiting experts. Co-operation with non-EU countries also has to be improved. Council Regulation 1338/2001 features measures for protecting the single currency. Moreover, the May 29, 2000 Council Framework Directive defines Euro-related penalties.
The current Recommendation wants the Member States to take steps to rule out any possibility that paper used to print Euro-denominated notes may be freely available. The Member States are urged to develop central law-enforcement contact points for combating this ...
