Article: Introducing fluorine: in polymers and electronic materials, pharmaceuticals and agricultural chemicals, this 'little atom' is emerging as the darling of the CPI. (Newsfront).

Fluorine is a little atom that packs a powerful punch. It reacts with virtually every other element and most compounds--sometimes violently--to produce chemicals such as hydrogen fluoride and nitrogen trifluoride. Then there is fluorine's ability to form a strong bond with carbon. Although only a handful of carbon-fluorine bonds occur naturally, many organofluorine compounds have been synthesized as reagents, or synthons, and new, more-selective ones are in the works. With these and other fluorine-containing materials finding application in virtually every high-technology growth sector, fluorine is emerging as the darling of the chemical process industries (CPI).
