An innocuous land agreement last week in Corpus Christi, Texas, may one day yield the largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal ever built in the US.
Houston-based Cheniere Energy announced that it has formed a partnership with BPU L.L.C., an affiliate of Sherwin Alumina, to develop the Corpus Christi LNG terminal.
Although Cheniere officials would not comment on the project's scope, several sources said the company is planning for a baseload send-out of 2 Bcf/d, by far the largest in the US. The Cove Point LNG terminal in Maryland currently holds that title with 1 Bcf/d baseload send-out capacity.
