The need for higher-speed, more tightly controlled processes in the pressroom have helped to move the printing process from a craft to a highly automated, computer-integrated manufacturing operation.
Since the first four-color offset press appeared in 1930, myriad new press technologies have been introduced to help printers offer their clientele highest-quality output. Following are some of the events of note that took place over the last 75 years that have shaped the pressroom.
1929: Five ink companies merge to form General Printing Ink Company, the forerunner of Sun Chemical Corporation.
1930: First four-color offset press appears.
