In response to the state Senate recent approval of a bill that would ban ephedra-based products, Metabolife International Inc. said in a written statement that California adults may be "deprived of their freedom to make an educated choice in using ephedrine-based products," stressing the critical need for the weight-promoted substance now that the government sees "being overweight is a serious threat to the public health of Americans."
The San Diego-based firm sells the popular ephedrine-containing product Metabolife 356.
