The shootings at Thurston High School five years ago altered how Lane County's schools, therapists and agencies handle kids who show a propensity for violence.
Now, the discovery of a Kip Kinkel-style violent drawing would spark a thorough examination of the young artist's life. An arrest for shoving a rock off an overpass and onto a moving car probably would prompt a wide-ranging investigation of the child's mental status, family life, peer situation and school performance.
