MIAMI -- The Reds have developed an offseason practice of seeking out rejects, retreads and various other free-agent reclamation projects, signing them to non-guaranteed, minor-league contracts and inviting them to spring training. The apparent theory is that if you stock the clubhouse with enough of that sort of rabble, at least one or two of those players will earn a spot on the Opening Day roster.
Back on Jan. 7, when Felix Heredia signed one of those contracts, he was thought to be one of those guys. But four months later, he has proven to be much more than that for the Reds.
And he has proven it ...
