The 724 Chilean closed capital companies that comprise the Estrategia closed capital company ranking reported a combined profit of US$482mil in the first quarter of 2003, an increase of 73% on the same period in 2002. The result accounted for 30% of the overall profit of US$1.61bil registered by the country's public limited companies (SAs). Of the 724 companies, 45% increased their profits, 20% reduced their profits and 30% reported losses.
