The shopping centers sector has been increasing in the Northeast region, which concentrates 15% of the units based in Brazil. The prediction is to open ten new units in the region until 2004, through minimum investments of R$205mil. Two shopping centers were inaugurated in the first half of 2003 (Jan-Jun) only in Pernambuco state: Shopping Norte, opened in April, and Shopping Imperatriz, recently opened. Northeast region has 90 facilities in operation and expects to turnover R$7.4bil in 2003, 6% more than the income posted in 2002, of R$6.4bil.
