This little-known limestone massif has no English-language walking guide and to date it has escaped being described in Lonely Planet's guide to France, or indeed in their Walking in France guide-book.
Defended by tortuous gorges and roofed with broad, grassy plateaux and crocodilian ridges, the massif was the lair of France's largest Resistance force during the Second World War.
