Determined Richard Pinkney overcame engine problems to win the opening round of the new Association of North-east and Cumbria Car Clubs Autotest Championship.
The Durham AC driver suffered a broken fuel pump on his Toyota-powered Dutton early on in the Hartlepool town centre event and picked up a maximum time.
But he borrowed a pump from fellow competitor Keith Walton and went on to win with a time of 771.3 seconds.
