Can the law require you to be your brother's keeper?
Not in all cases, attorneys for Paul Hoerer convinced a Lake County judge last week.
Hoerer, 27, is charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter in the drug overdose death of Nicole LeVin, 19, of Barrington.
One of those counts alleged Hoerer, of 221 Summerdale Drive in Algonquin, should be found guilty because he failed to summon medical assistance when it was clear LeVin was in distress.
