Most of us get a lot of what is called junk mail. The direct-mail folks don't like that term. But if what I get in the mail every day ends up in the trash without even being opened, then I think it qualifies as "junk.'' It costs the company a lot of money to send it to me, and it wastes my time.
On the other hand, there is a lot of direct mail I am happy to receive. Catalogs from places I shop by mail always get my interest. The others get tossed. Other pieces of mail have some redeeming value to me, too. I'm sure the direct-mail folks would love to know what I toss so they can save the cost of the mailing.
