With the popularity of discipline-specific, intelligent modeling tools (see my cover story in this issue, "Should We BIM?," pp. 6-12) that fall in a similar price range and produce the needed 2D documentation as a byproduct, the time might eventually come when such programs as AutoCAD are no longer needed. Until we get there, though, the improvements in AutoCAD 2004 should make the drafting process less onerous and more efficient and pleasant.
