NEXT Monday is the 50th anniversary of the death of Fred Darling, trainer of a record seven Derby winners and perhaps the greatest trainer in British racing history.

Darling was Britain's dominant trainer for two decades up to his retirement in 1947 and, with Gordon Richards as his stable jockey, sent out a string of champions

and Classic winners, including some of the legendary names of the sport.
