Jun. 4--WASHINGTON--A band of environmental groups is demanding an independent prosecutor to investigate whether the No. 2 official at the Interior Department is using his influence to help his old lobbying firm.
The groups say Deputy Secretary J. Steven Griles has met frequently with his former clients and colleagues from National Environmental Strategies, even while it is paying him $1.1 million in four annual installments to cash out his interest in the firm.
