Worldwide digital still camera sales once again demonstrated strong growth in 2002, increasing by 50 percent, to a projected 27.5 million units, according to the "Photo Imaging Markets Worldwide" chapter of the 2001-2002 PMA Industry Trends Report--International Markets, available from PMA Business Resources at www.pmai.org.
The 27.5 million digital cameras sold accounted for 30 percent of the total 90.5 million still cameras sold worldwide in 2002. The United States is the largest still camera market, with nearly 29.0 million cameras sold during the year, and 34 percent of these being digital models.
