Kirtley Bell spent his life working for the railroad -- and proudly -- because he followed in the steps of his father and brother.
Mr. Bell started work for the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad at age 16 as a store room clerk, became a machinist/welder and progressed to roundhouse foreman in a 46-year career with the C&O.
"He loved the railroad," said his daughter, Dolores Fillhardt of Silver Grove. "He was from a railroad family -- his brother was an engineer, and his father worked on the railroad -- and they lived in a railroad town."
Mr. Bell, of Silver Grove, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East. He was 91.
