Ceara state, which has performed a campaign to attract industries to region over the past years, has seen its exports increase. The groups Vicunha Textil (textiles), Grendene Calcados (shoes), Bermas Industria e Comercio (leather), j.v. between the Sao Paulo-based Bertin and the Italian Rino Mastrotto, are amongst the main exporters. Bermas exceeded R$50mil in external sales in 2002. The Rio Grande do Sul-based Grendene, which employs 19,000 professionals in Ceara, traded US$40mil last year, 14% of the total output.
