THESE are just five of the 150 images selected by the Getty Archive to define the 20th century. Whether it be the cataclysmic fireball of 1937's Hindenburg calamity or the radiance of Princess Diana on her wedding day in 1981, these are the pictures that capture the essence of the most comprehensively recorded epoch in history.
Chosen from 40 million images archived in the Getty collection, each one has been painstakingly picked by picture editor Michael Rand, who said: "We wanted to capture the flavour of the age."
From the Boer War to the first Gulf War, many of humanity's most inhuman moments are recorded here.
