Pete Amundson and Richard Schmidt, one of Amundson's tennis tutors, share a unique distinction:
They're the only Madisonians to win WIAA boys singles state championships.
Twenty years after Schmidt won the second of his two titles for Madison East, Madison La Follette's Amundson posted a 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 victory over fellow University of Wisconsin recruit Will Bortz from Milwaukee Marquette Saturday in the Division1 singles final at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
