Sir John Hall has sold his shares in Newcastle United to the club for pounds 4.5m, severing his personal financial ties with the Magpies.
The Hall family has suffered a series of financial setbacks over recent years and there is speculation that Sir John's decision to sell his shares 12 years after winning control of the club was in part due to these problems.
