Jun. 9--The nation's mayors are nearly unanimous in their concerns about federal funding for homeland security reaching the cities.
At the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Denver this week, many said they have spent millions preparing for a possible terrorist attack, but they complained that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has dragged its feet on funding.
Just six weeks ago, President Bush allocated $2.3 billion for homeland security, ordering it to be distributed within 60 days to governors, who will then decide how much the cities will get. The states, which can ...
