If you've exhausted your freezer stash of strawberries or are rationing your last jar of jam, you won't be berry happy to read this.
The cool, wet spring in Central New York has delayed the short, sweet strawberry season. At this point, the fantasy dessert of strawberry shortcake made with fresh, local strawberries, topped with a cloud of whipped cream, is just that, a fantasy.
Brian Reeves, whose family operates Reeves Farms in Baldwinsville, guesses that the first berries won't be picked from his fields for the farm stand and for delivery to area stores until this weekend.
