IN recent months, Conwy trading standards officers have become increasingly visible at livestock markets,on roadsides and on farms. It is fair to say our involvement has not gone unnoticed by the North Wales farming community.

Having to deal with over 150 possible breaches of the 20-day standstill rule in November 2002 brought criticism that we were being heavy-handed and that we were treating farmers like criminals.

Viewed from their perspective, this was understandable because, in a relatively short space of time, they had seen our involvement with their community go from low to high presence.
