The financially strapped fund that provides health insurance to about 1,900 active Denver police and firefighters, as well as retirees, will terminate at the end of the month.The seven-member board of trustees that governs the Denver Fire and Police Health Fund decided Friday to go out of business after 26 years. A letter notifying participants will be mailed out today.
Officials of police and fire unions could not predict the impact of the fund's termination. A search is under way for a replacement health insurance plan.
