Good songwriters write about what they know, and such is usually the case with longtime John Hiatt sideman Sonny Landreth. In the early 1990S, Landreth, who may be America's foremost slide guitarist, struck out on his own, leading bands under his own name. His albums for the Zoo label were critically hailed, especially 1992's Outward Bound, and 1995's South of I-10. Both albums featured the most incredible slide guitar solos you've ever heard and proved Landreth's mettle as a songwriter in his own right, for the way the songs all seemed to fit together with a "sense of place."
