Many pop stars cut their musical teeth on traditional music--Sting, Van Morrison, Ian Anderson, and Sinead O'Connor come to mind. Add to the list Ritchie Blackmore, best known for his showy electric guitar leads for Deep Purple and Rainbow. In 1997, he met vocalist Candice Night, and the two forged a musical partnership whose roots are in the Renaissance court rather than arena rock. Their Ren-rock collaboration has sold scads of records and sells out venues around the globe.
