The International Reading Association presented the 2003 IRA Children's Book Awards at its May convention in Orlando, FL. The winners are as follows:
Primary fiction award: Celeste Davidson Mannis for One Leaf Rides the Wind (Viking).
Primary nonfiction award: Nancy Andrews-Goebel for The Pot That Juan Built (Lee & Low).
Intermediate fiction award: Madene Carvell for Who Will Tell My Brother? (Hyperion).
Intermediate nonfiction award: David I. Smith for If the World Were a Village (Kids Can Press).
Young adult fiction award: Chris Crowe for Mississippi Trial, 1955 (Penguin Putnam/Phyllis Fogelman Bks.).
