A cold, snowy, rainy winter and spring has left at least one Virginia yard working to catch up on their regular maintenance work. Smith Marine Railway in Dare, Va., is six weeks behind in their scheduled work. "The weather has kept us behind," says K.T. Smith, owner of the railway. "But we are slowly catching up. It has been one of the worst winters for weather we have had in years."
At the most, tidewater Virginia has maybe a half-dozen snowfalls a year, but this winter it snowed in varied amounts for 10 weeks in a row, and the state has been nothing but a mud hole the entire spring.
