A Cook County jury took just three hours Thursday to convict a bike messenger of first-degree murder for pushing an Elgin Township man down a flight of stairs at Chicago's Union Station in 1999, a fall that cracked his skull.
Keith Radloff's widow, Jan, and family wiped away tears and hugged when the verdict was read. State's Attorney Dick Devine, in court for the conclusion of the case, offered his consolation to the family.
Jurors were given the option of convicting bike messenger Matt Givens, 28, of Chicago, of the far less serious charge of involuntary manslaughter.
