Article: Breast cancer survivors have a lower risk for heart attacks.

2003 JUN 16 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Elderly women who have survived early-stage breast cancer are significantly less likely to have an acute myocardial infarction (AMI) than women who do not have histories of breast cancer, according to a new study.

The authors discovered that women who have at least one baseline risk factor for coronary artery disease experience the most significant reduction in risk for an AMI.

They conclude in the July 1, 2003, issue of Cancer, "We have identified a subset of women who have one-third reduction in the disease that accounts for the largest number of deaths in elderly women in the United States." They suggested, ...
