A NUMBER OF cherished French traditions - transportation strikes, snobbery, gorgeous women falling for funny-looking men - connect to make the overnight romance ``Jet Lag'' a big batch of Gallic cliches.
But one other tradition of French cinema, its tendency to enrich even the most lightweight entertainments with strong feeling and compelling character truths, salvages some of this formulaic effort. Unexciting as it ultimately is, ``Jet Lag'' still possesses more real insight into relationships than any dozen cutesy Hollywood love stories we've recently seen.
