Jun. 14--Betty Sullivan was running late for work. Not wanting to risk a pay cut, Sullivan zoomed past a slow-moving car and pulled into Ford Motor Co.'s engineering lab just in time.
But later that day, she found out the man she had left in the dust was Henry Ford, who had a message for her.
"I was a little frightened, of course," Sullivan recalled. But "he just wanted me to know I was a good driver." From then on, Ford dubbed her "the girl up in the steno."
She was 19 years old.
Sullivan turns 98 Sunday, making her one year and 364 days ...
