Byline: GUY FRIDDELL
Gregory Peck, who died Thursday, seemed to loom larger than many others in life.
Preparing in 1976 for a film role, he came to Norfolk to study Douglas MacArthur. I studied Peck, an easy, engaging model.
When Peck paused to look at the general's statue before the MacArthur Memorial, a crowd flocked at his heels.
Unlike some actors who seem to shrink off screen, Peck loomed larger with tremendously broad shoulders.
A rumpled figure, he came across loosely, relaxed, walking, talking, at an amble.
His quest for acting began while he was a senior at the University of California in Berkeley.
