Despite financial and time constraints, more and more community hospitals in the United States are installing new computer software in an effort to improve patient safety and reduce medical errors and they are achieving some success with the effort.
First Consulting Group, a health care technology evaluation company in Lexington, Mass., and the California HealthCare Foundation, in Oakland, reviewed the use of Computerized Physician Entry Order, specialized software that allows doctors to enter patient treatment directives into computers instead of writing them down on standard forms.
