What do The New York Times, Sammy Sosa and the Chicago Tribune have in common?
They committed major goofs. They didn't try to cover up or spin or deceive or conceal. They acknowledged their mistakes promptly. This is enlightened damage control.
All were damaged, but I think in the long run their reputations may even be enhanced by their honesty.
I know this is a friendly interpretation of Sosa's response, but most of the fans in Wrigley Field still love their Sammy.
An interesting coincidence is that Sammy is an employee of the Tribune Company, owners of the Cubs.
